Editing Client Types

The template editing dialog is accessed through the Edit Template button within the Templates tab of the profile details dialog.

When clicking this button, the template editing dialog opens, landing on the Client Types tab.

Understanding Client Types

In the BizMetry data model, a client type is a taxonomic classification that represents a category of business entities or actors that interact with your resources. Client types group multiple client instances under the same classification for better organization and management, allowing you to define common behavioral patterns and metrics collection strategies across similar clients.

Client Types Overview

This tab lists all client types that have been configured for the template.

Search, Filter & Sort

Located above the client types table, the search bar and sort dropdown allow you to find and organize client types quickly.

Search Bar

  • Filtering is applied as you type — no need to press Enter
  • The search is case-insensitive and performs a partial match, finding any client type whose name or description contains the typed text anywhere within the value
  • A match count hint is displayed below the search bar indicating how many client types match the current term out of the total
  • Click the icon inside the search bar to clear the filter and restore the full list
Field Included in Search
Name ✅ Yes
Description ✅ Yes

Sort

The Sort Order dropdown controls the ordering of the list by name.

Option Behavior
Ascending (A-Z) Sorts alphabetically from A to Z — default
Descending (Z-A) Sorts alphabetically from Z to A

The sort is applied instantly when a new option is selected. The default on opening the dialog is always Ascending (A-Z).

Tip

Search and sort work together — you can filter by keyword and apply a sort order simultaneously.

Client Type Configuration

Enabled Toggle

Allows you to enable or silence the business metrics generated by the client in question.

  • Toggle ON: Agents associated with this client type will capture the generated metrics and send them to the BizMetry platform.
  • Toggle OFF: Metrics are automatically silenced. This is useful for completely silencing a client without needing to shut down any other components.

Multiple Clients per Type

Remember that a client type can encompass multiple client instances in the BizMetry data model.

Editable Fields

Name Column

Allows you to edit the name of the client type inline.

Description Column

Allows you to edit the description of the client type inline.

Actions Column

Contains a basket icon that allows you to delete the client type from the template configuration.

Two-Click Deletion

For safety, deletion requires two clicks:

  1. First click: The icon turns red temporarily
  2. Second click: The client type is permanently deleted

Impact of Client Type Deletion

When deleting a client type, all clients already defined and linked to the client type are automatically unlinked and deactivated. Upon deactivation, they are automatically excluded from metrics capture until the clients are assigned to a different existing client type or are deleted.

Adding New Client Types

By scrolling to the end of the client types list, you can access the + Add Client Type button, which allows you to create a new client type.

Dialog Actions

At the bottom right corner of the dialog, two buttons are displayed:

Template Edit Action Buttons

Save Changes

Saves all changes introduced at any time. This button is visible across all template configuration tabs (Client Types, Resources, Attributes, and Domains), allowing you to save all changes made to the template globally.

Configuration Propagation

When clicking this button, the template is persisted and the updated configuration is propagated across all active agents for the different environments.

Synchronization Timing

Configuration synchronization may take some time, depending on the sync interval time configured for the agents. During this period, agents will still see the "old configuration," which may impact metrics collection.

It is important that the refresh time is configured according to the specific use case requirements.

Client Instance Updates

If any client has been created as part of the profile from the modified client type, the client instance will be refreshed to display the new name and/or description of the client type accordingly.

Cancel

Discards all changes introduced to the template. When clicking Cancel, a confirmation dialog appears allowing you to:

  • Confirm the cancellation and discard all changes
  • Go back and continue editing
